Peter

Peter

Peter was born and raised in the Netherlands in 1978. In 2002 he received his master degrees in physics and astrophysics from the University of Utrecht. The day after graduating, he joined 4 friends on a 6-week bicycle trip from Utrecht to Istanbul, igniting the travel bug within him that has never been cured. Peter has spent over 10 years on the road and cycled across all continents, always in a self-supported style with tent and sleeping bag. Even when he married and after having children, he continued traveling. Peters children have spent more than half their lives on the road, slept more nights in a tent than in a house, speak 3 languages and have climbed lofty peaks. The Van Glabbeek family absolutely love the mountains and moved to the Austrian Alps a couple of miles away from the Italian Dolomites. Whenever the clan can, they go out to ski, snowshoe, hike, bike, swim or climb in their stunning back yard: the Alps.

What's your favorite vacation destination?

Cycling 5000km across the Tibetan plateau on the toughest and remotest roads imaginable was definitely an experience I will never forget. The Argentinian-Chilean high Andes is another favourite area, I spent over a year there exploring every small road I could find.

What's your favorite hike?

I have a couple of local summits in the Dolomites that I love to hike on a clear day in Autumn. The clear blue skies, the larch trees turning yellow and the mountains with the first fresh snow make for some of the best views in the world.

What's your favorite bike ride?

Ascension day in Holland is one of the most fun days on a bike. Hoards of cyclists wake up before sunrise and bike around the countryside stopping at pop up festivals, cafes, or just continue their party on a bike.

What's your favorite trip to guide?

Alps to Salzburg in Austria and South Tyrol in Italy.

Why?

I love to share my passion for the mountains, point out the mountain tops, the wildflowers and tell stories about the traditional mountain farmers. Tuscany because of the incredible history and art.

What do you do that makes a guest's vacation special?

I try to connect with every guest on a personal level and share my passion for travel, the mountains, history, and the local cultures. The warm summer evenings accompanied by some of the best food in Europe, are the best time to have good conversations. I always choose quality over quantity to enrich the experience.

Cycling, hiking (in winter with snowshoes), mountaineering, traveling, reading (classics, novels, history, philosophy), backcountry skiing, alpine skiing, cross country skiing.

What destination would you like to visit, that you haven't?

I don't have a bucket list. The road is my destination, it is all about the quality of experience and personal growth.
